The Mental Health & Wellbeing Program at Kiran Foundation

From 2016-2019, I set out to develop a community based mental health framework & the co-creation of the first trauma-informed school system in Pakistan for Kiran Foundation.

A peak into a usual day during the time I worked on this project:

I physically worked out of an adopted government school in Lyari of 600+ students and their caregivers (mostly mothers) who also came to school regularly for various classes and workshops. Half the day I would function as the school counsellor for the kids, a trauma trainer & emotional support for the teachers, and a therapist for the mothers; the other half of the day I would spent my time researching and developing policies, processes, and manuals for the framework to come to life.

This was a true labor of love. It was obviously a very ambitious undertaking, and after three years of being immersed, I was burnt out (surprise surprise), and found myself moving countries seeking a reset. Having said that, those three years of extreme focus, passion, and innovation was the most fun I have ever had professionally and something I am proud of. I carry this work and the relationships I built during this time very close to my heart.

This work taught me, yet again, that the love you give always finds its way back to you.

Nothing beats community. Community is everything.

Healing happens IN relationship.
